Ships of the Nationalist and Republican Navies during the Spanish Civil War: Alsedo-class Destroyers

The class was built at Cartagena between 1920 and 1924. The design was based upon the British Nimrod-class Destroyers.

Ships' characteristics:
  • Displacement: 1,145 tons normal; 1,315 tons full load
  • Dimensions:
    • Length: 283’ (86.3m)
    • Beam: 27’ (8.2m)
    • Draught: 15’ (4.6m)
  • Speed: 34 kts
  • Armament: 3 x 4” (102mm) (3 x 1); 2 x 2 pdr (40mm) Anti-Aircraft Guns (2 x 1); 4 x 21” (533mm) Torpedo Tubes (2 x 2)
  • Complement: 70
Alesado served in the Republican Navy. Survived the Civil War, and was stricken and broken-up in the 1950’s.
Juan Lazagar served in the Republican Navy. Survived the Civil War, and was stricken and broken-up in the 1960’s.
Velasco served in the Nationalist Navy. Survived the Civil War, and was stricken and broken-up in the 1950’s.
